Islands and Insulin Update

I spent the summer finishing the first draft of Islands and Insulin. I also spent the summer learning and doing about a hundred other things in order to publish the book including choosing a title, securing a designer for the cover (Thanks Matt O'Brien), and getting the photos for the cover art (Thanks to Blair Ryan). By the end of the season, the manuscript was going out for editing and I was preparing for the soul-tormenting process of having someone tell you that you really aren't perfect and that there is always room for improvement.
As I eagerly await my second round of edits, I am working on a book trailer which has turned into a mini-movie of sorts. I have always wanted to try my hand at movie writing and producing. I am currently casting the roles and finding shooting locations. Shooting and editing will most likely be my Christmas break project.
A rough sketch of the front cover.
Book cover design is in full swing with all of the writing for the cover and publicity finished. This is a totally new type of writing for me that has had much help from Jeri Roberts in producing brief paragraphs that are filled with excitement and no spelling errors (I'm spelling handicapped.)
Once the second round of edits come back, I have my quick cry at all the red ink of my paper, recover and fix the mistakes, I will be able to get to my Advanced Reader Copies. These are the books that go out to the media and other influential people to give them time to read and (hopefully) write about before the official launch date. The covers for these have been designed and are just waiting for the interior to be set for printing. Their packages have been sitting on the counter in my office for three months, after a particularly crafty two weeks in the summer. I've also given the opportunity for any of my Kickstarter backers to receive an ARC in place of their first edition copy. ARC's have developed a bit of a following as collectors items.
On my plate now is preparations for the Holiday Pre-Sale for Islands and Insulin. If you pre-order your copy of Islands and Insulin you get 15% off the cover price. If you are buying the book as a gift you also get a postcard to give to the recipient with a message form you or from me (no one likes to go to a party empty handed.) In addition to the great deal $2 from the purchase price will be  donated to Insulindependence to support all of their amazing programs. (more info to come)
After that comes the preparations for the launch in February 2013 which should make for a very exciting start to the new year.
